Slater Barron – the Lint Lady

Most of us simply throw away the pesky dryer lint that accumulates with a standard load of laundry, but Slater Barron turns it into an unprecedented form of art. “The Lint Lady” creates portraits — using public figures, such as Princess Diana and John Wayne, and personal connections alike as her muses — as well as sculptures, which take a more decided focus on food items, ranging from vegetarian treats to boxes of assorted chocolates to full sushi entrees. Smaller lint paintings depict flowers and landscapes, and her skills also extend to photography, collage, and installation pieces. The unifying element across her repetoire is her bold desire to tap into unexpected, nontraditional resources: “I like to make objects, usually trying to do things I may not be able to pull off.”
